Celebrating the champions behind the champions.
There’s nothing quite like hearing the words “Thanks, Mom”. These short videos show affectionate messages of thanks from Olympic athletes to their mothers for all the love and support they’ve been given.
Cullen Jones
- Country: USA
- Event: Swimming
Although Cullen Jones claims that swimming has never come naturally to him - in fact, he nearly drowned as a child - he doesn't let it show. As a member of the winning 2007 men's 400m freestyle relay team and a national championship gold medalist in the 50m free, he is the first US swimmer of African American descent to hold or share a world record. In spite of this success in the pool, however, he has always put his studies first - a tactic his mother strongly encouraged. After turning pro, he returned to North Carolina State to finish his dual degree in English and Psychology, which he hopes to use as a PR agent or writer one day.
