Cullen Jones

  • Country: USA
  • Event: Swimming

Although Cullen Jones claims that swimming has never come naturally to him - in fact, he nearly drowned as a child - he doesn't let it show. As a member of the winning 2007 men's 400m freestyle relay team and a national championship gold medalist in the 50m free, he is the first US swimmer of African American descent to hold or share a world record. In spite of this success in the pool, however, he has always put his studies first - a tactic his mother strongly encouraged. After turning pro, he returned to North Carolina State to finish his dual degree in English and Psychology, which he hopes to use as a PR agent or writer one day.
